We Don’t Even Know If Our Students Have a Biblical Worldview

What makes you wonder?
It’s not an unusual experience. Many leaders in Christian organizations don’t know if their students have a biblical worldview. They wonder if their students’ beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes are aligned with the Bible. And they wonder how they can even know.
Afterall, it’s right up front in the mission statements of many Christian organizations–to develop a biblical worldview in their students, to teach from a biblical worldview, to do everything from a Biblical worldview.
Do students love Jesus, faithfully follow him, and want to do his will? Will they stay faithful throughout life, even after they graduate or move on from our organization?
And what about us? Do we have a mature biblical worldview ourselves? Do we know how to teach it? Can we get a proper understanding of our students’ worldviews?
Should we even worry about worldview? Is a declaration of faith enough for our students to stay strong in their faith into the future?
Is there hope?
I’ve been there. Having been a teacher in 3 different Christian schools and a Christian college, I’ve interacted with thousands of students over the years. I’ve wondered if the message of Jesus would last in their lives. And of course, I’ve seen some who do, and some who don’t. But I’ve also learned that it is more likely to stick if I make a point of it in my interactions with my students.
I’ve been working with leaders in Christian organizations to help them develop a mature biblical worldview in students for over a decade, and I’ve seen students awaken to their own worldview.
Now What?
If you want your students to awaken to their own worldview, you can start by asking them questions. Getting their beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes out in the open will help you and them better understand where the gaps in their worldview are.
